Because of quanlity control, some cards will have more or less than the standard quantity but 95% of the stock are based on the following MOQ chart:
Generally speaking, the best quality is AAA, while AB is rather low quality.
AAA > AA > A+ > A > A- > AB+ > AB
The photos shown in our catalog are for your reference. It may be top grade or medium grade.
The stones are graded from mass production, we try our best to select the most similar on one card. Please understand there is variation among one card because of natural stones.
For most stones, we have considered these three factors:
1) Colour
2) Amount of inclusions
3) Amount of sandholes
4) Strengh of fire (e.g. Labradorite)
5) Nice patterns
6) Polishing effect
We work in many shapes & sizes. Yet we have some common sizes which we regularly make to stock for most stones ( that means you can re-order easier).
Round/ Square Cushion: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 18, 20mm
Oval/ Pear/ Rectangle: 6x8, 8x10, 8x12, 10x12, 10x14, 12x16, 13x18, 15x20, 18x25mm
Marquise: 8x20, 8x25, 8x30, 10x20, 10x22, 10x25, 10x30mm
A: We usually cut the common sizes for stock. If you have sizes not found on our website, you can email us. We also accept orders!
We strive to control the size accuracy as good as we can, therefore, you can fit our cabochons into the mold in a cost-efficient way.
In the procedure of polishing, some stones may decrease in size more than others because of the stone nature(Uneven hardness of the stone, inclusion distribution)
In general case, you may expect the sizes fall between +- 0.2mm, and rarely more than 0.25mm. From what we have measured, most of them are in exact size to +0.15mm.
What if the stones are oversized:
We would advise making the silver mold slightly larger than the stone size. For example, 12x16mm cabochon - you would make the silver mold to fit 12.1mm x 16.1mm.
There are two easy remedy solutions if you find that the stones are too large to fit:
1) Polish the inner side of the mold gently
2) Polish the stone edges gently on the side which cannot fit.
If you find any abnormal case, you are encouraged to email us, share your experience that we will immediately study with the factory and try to improve at the best we can.
Our cabochons are carefully shaped at medium-tall thickness to produce a beautiful dome and leave the edge of 0.5mm-1mm tall for fitting in silver mould.
We leave the edge of 0.5 - 1mm, to avoid the cabochons from "sinking" into the silver bezel, that can be a problem of thin cabochon.
The straight edge provides more glue attachment between the stone & bezel. Also it avoids "spillover" of the glue which may stick to the surface of the stone.
Our website serves like an online catalog, some items may be stock out by the time you order it. Most of them are re-orderable.
