Things to know for your trip to Hong Kong during this September

04 Sep 2019
We know that there is a concern about safety in Hong Kong. We would love to share some information with you to ensure a pleasing and safe journey for the coming Sept Gem Show.

Situation:

  • Protest only happens in few parts of the city. Even in those protest areas, it's safe if you are not participating.
  • The number of protestors is decreasing; We expect the peak has already passed.  The situation is getting better we believe.

Some questions and answers...:

  • Is the Airport & Airport Expo (where we exhibit) safe?
    • The airport authority has sought an injunction to ensure the Hong Kong International Airport would not be affected by protests. The Airport Expo is a rather safe area as it's easily accessible from the airport by Airport Express.
  • Is Wan Chai HKCEE safe to go?
    • Wan Chai, Sheung Wan, Central, Causeway Bay are usually affected during protest, especially on Weekends, causing traffic congestion. But it's safe, and not often happening, don't worry. We will advise taking a taxi and the driver will pick the best route for you.
  • Is Hung Hom area safe?
    • Hunghom so far doesn't break out chaotic protest and not likely.
  • Which districts should I concern more?
    • It doesn't mean that these districts are dangerous but just our opinion to stay alert to the environment if you get there:
      • Wan Chai, Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok,  Wong Tai Sin, Sham Shui Po, Tsuen Wan.
    • The protest is not occupying the whole district, maybe you are in this street, and the next street, protest happens. Just stay away from the "black" crowd is fine.
  • If I have to book a hotel, any recommendation?
    • We will recommend these districts:
      • Near airport
        • if you mainly visit the Airport Expo, it's very convenient
        • rather expensive~ $280 per night)
      • HungHom
        • Harbour Plaza Metropolis, Harbourfront Hotel, Kerry Hotel, Harbour Grand, Hotel Sav(very affordable) are all good choices
        • 30 mins by taxi to the Airport Expo
        • Easier to visit showrooms in Hunghom before or after the show. (during the show most showrooms are not open)
      • Tsim Sha Tsui
        • it's fine, don't worry!; Easy to go to the airport
      • Tsuen Wan
        • L' Hotel, Panda Hotel
        • Near Airport
        • Attractive Price
      • Wanchai
        • Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel, The Harbourview
        • At HKCEC (Easy to visit Wan Chai Show)
        • Have shuttle connecting Wan Chai & Airport Expo
    • The hotels are offering lower rates than usual!
  • Any tips if I am going to the airport to take a flight?
    • If you start off from the city: Usually 3 hours, you may go there 4-5 hours prior if there is a protest near the airport, unfortunately. Stay alert with the news or call the airline. You can WhatsApp us or call us as well, we can check for you.
    • If you are leaving from the Airport Expo: it takes 10 mins to get there. No pressure.
  • How can I get the update news?
